Argh!!! This is so hard.
I’ve spent many years moaning about this, and now I have to change my tune. But surely that is a sign of growth and intelligence? When new data appears and you recognize – and admit – that you were mistaken? So here I go.
(Drumroll) Contrary to my previous statements, I would like to submit to you that minivans are da bomb.
There… I’ve said it. Deep breath.
It can no longer be denied. Last weekend, I had an experience that made me a complete and utter convert. I had dropped the girlies to one of their activities and had returned to pick them up. It was a special day, with a mass birthday celebration for all of the kids in the club, so it went well past time. No problem. I can wait.
The weather was absolutely gorgeous. Warm, sunshiny, with a slight breeze. Unseasonably warm, it was incredible.
I made the decision to wait for them in the parking lot. It was by the church, so not a super noisy spot and plenty of people around who I was familiar with (or, with whom I was familiar, should you be looking for proper grammar).
Now, here’s the thing about minivans: space is generally not an issue, especially with a Honda Odyssey. Three rows of seating means there’s room to keep people slightly separated, drinks securely contained, and accompanying bits and bobs stowed in the back. It serves as a means of transport, a mobile party room, and a dry place for a rainy day picnic. All viable options.
And when you have a minivan all to yourself… it cannot be beat.
I like to maximize my comfort at all times, and last weekend was no exception. I opened the side doors, reclined the left middle-row passenger seat as far back as possible, smoothed my skirt over my lap, and propped my feet up onto the middle console. With a gentle cross breeze coming through, closed eyes masked by sunglasses, clasped hands resting comfortably on my stomach, shoes off and feet up…I can safely say I had the best nap of my life.
When I awoke, I was able to formally end my refreshment session with several long, cool sips from my ever present water bottle. It was like a day spent lounging on the beach. Maybe even better, as it was this little unanticipated gift, with no need to brush sand out of any crevices.
Would the fullness of this experience have been possible in a sedan? An SUV? Friends, I just can’t see it.
With that said, allow me to present the following to you.
Five things to love about a clean minivan with a sunroof
And so, I am forever converted, and may no longer be in a rush to move on to the next vehicle. A new appreciation of what’s already in hand. Seems like there might be an important lesson in there somewhere, wouldn’t you say? Love the one you’re with, my friends, and be well.❤️
